Evolution scares me. There is a particular group of human beings who seem to have gone off the rails. They are not anymore trying to survive in a hostile environment, they do not care about food and protection... moreover, they glorify starvation and vulnerability. These dried minds only think about beauty, appearance and compliments; furthermore, they want their lives to be noticeable and we the mortals should kiss their ass and revere every one of their farts. Psychologists of the world, unite! Here you have a massive amount of work, there is a whole new evolutive branch to be studied! From now on, I will call them Homo narcissistus.
Not happy with considering themselves gorgeus and astonishing people, they also need to photograph every single angle of their faces and bodies so the rest of the world can admire them! Facebook, Twitter and every social network is riddled with this stupid visual information! Nevertheless, those are the basis of their social circles; they live every moment caring about how to show us their amazingness. Then, their "true" friends are supposed to like and comment every photo. Otherwise, we automatically become jerks, weirdos or enemies for them because we don't spend a single second of our life trying to please them... Excuse me, but it is very clear to me that you do not need any compliments because you are uploading photos of your own face! That is a clear statement of your extremely healthy self-esteem! Why do you bother if I ignore you? You should better call a therapist now.
Social networks are being given a brainless use. The behaviour described above entails bullying, shallowness, fragile friendships and a false sense of communication. I believe human values are also being wrecked. Even if we use those networks in a sensible way, we should be careful and realise that relationships need time and effort, it is not enough to make a poor comment below photoshoped profile pictures. Where is this idiocratic society going? Will that attitude eventually change? To be sincere, I feel pesimistic about this foolish trend. I am afraid Homo narcissistus will not die out easily.
Exercise: Giving a harsh opinion.
